SBS/ALA Merger Complete
On Wednesday, May 5, 2010 a merger between the Society for Biomolecular Sciences (SBS) and the Association for Laboratory Automation (ALA) was approved by a proxy vote of the respective memberships. With more than enough votes for a quorum the measure passed with an astounding 95% voting in favor of the merger.
The new organization will be called the Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS). Under this umbrella each of the forming organizations will continue to operate as sections of the new organization. The new organization was formed with a mission "to provide forums for education and information exchange to encourage the study and improve the science and practice of laboratory automation and screening."
We are excited to see how this merger can impact the scientific community in the months and years ahead.
